Frequently asked questions

How much will this cost?

Project cost depends on many variables—size, scope, complexity, site conditions, and the level of finish you’re aiming for.

During our initial discussions, we provide realistic cost ranges based on our experience with similar projects and current market conditions.

As the design progresses, we refine the estimate together, coordinate with contractors and consultants, and make sure you understand the financial implications of each decision so there are no surprises along the way.

How long will this take?

Every project is different, but we break the timeline into clear phases:

  • Visioning (Programming & Schematic Design)

  • Design (Design Development & Construction Documents)

  • Construction Administration (Permitting, Bidding, and Administration such as shop drawing, pay app, and change order review)

We’ll outline a full schedule early in the process so you know what to expect and when key milestones occur. Factors such as permitting, long-lead materials, scope changes, and weather can affect timing, but we proactively communicate updates to keep your project on track.

Do I really need an architect?

In most cases—yes. An architect ensures your project is safe, code-compliant, functional, and well-designed, and that your investment is being spent wisely.

We coordinate engineers and consultants, navigate the permitting process, develop detailed drawings for construction, and advocate for your interests during bidding and construction. A good architect doesn’t just draw a building—they protect your budget, goals, and vision.

What will you actually do for me?

We guide your project from idea to occupancy. Our services typically include:

Understanding your goals and translating them into a clear plan

Creating design concepts and refining them with your input

Developing detailed construction documents for permits and bidding

Coordinating structural, MEP, and civil engineering

Managing the permitting process

Assisting with contractor selection

Providing construction-phase support to ensure the work aligns with the design

You’ll know exactly what to expect in each phase, and we’ll be your partner throughout the entire process.

Can you show me examples of similar projects?

Absolutely! We maintain a portfolio of completed work across a range of project types.

During our first meeting, we’ll share relevant case studies—including project photos, budgets, timelines, and descriptions—so you can see our experience and approach firsthand.

If you’d like, we can also arrange site visits to recent projects so you can meet past clients and see our work in person.

Where are you located?

We are proudly based in Cedar Falls, Iowa, in the heart of the Waterloo–Cedar Falls metro and the greater Cedar Valley. While our roots are firmly planted here, we are licensed to practice in all of the states that border Iowa and actively pursue work throughout the region.

This means we’re able to serve clients not only across Iowa, but also in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, and South Dakota—bringing a strong understanding of Midwest building standards, climate considerations, and regional construction practices to every project.
